Duluth, Minnesota — Monday, September 30, 2024: The fifth installment of Discover Healthcare will take place this October 2 at The College of St. Scholastica in Duluth. Over 600 students from the Duluth and Iron Range area are expected to attend the event, which offers hands-on experiences in a variety of healthcare professions.
“The goal of the Discover Healthcare events is to inform students that no matter what they are interested in, there is a place for them in healthcare and they do not need to move away to find a job,” said Ali Bilden Camps, NORTHFORCE program manager and a consultant with the Northspan Group, which powers NORTHFORCE.
Previous editions of the Discover Healthcare series have seen high levels of engagement with an estimated 800 attendees and more than 35 healthcare booths in the last two years alone. NORTHFORCE has hosted the series in coordination with educational partners and other stakeholders since November 2023, when the event took place at the Hibbing Memorial Building in Hibbing, Minnesota. Northwood Technical College in Ashland, Wisconsin, has hosted two of the events (April 2023 and April 2024). The first two events (October 2022 and April 2023) were led by community and business stakeholders, including many local healthcare professionals.
“The October 2022 event featured a Life Link helicopter team for students to meet with, and this year we’re expecting an ambulance and a fire truck for tours,” shared Bilden Camps. “Each year, all the different healthcare booths add an experiential dimension to the traditional job fair format.”
