BeNorth.org, formerly NorthByChoice.org, has rebranded and added more resources to help individuals move within the Northland or relocate to the area.
The website is still structured with six sections covering the Iron Range, the Twin Ports, and the north and south shores of Lake Superior:
- Play – area recreation opportunities
- Work – local employment resources
- Connect – community groups and events
- Move – relocation and housing support
- Grow & Learn – guides for child care, K-12 schools, and higher education
- Be Well – health and wellness centers and services
The website launched in December 2020 as an online directory to help information seekers learn more about northern Minnesota and Wisconsin and connect with the many resources that exist to assist individuals and businesses in the Northland.
“One of the reasons we created BeNorth.org was to convey the high quality of life this region has to offer to prospective employees,” said Ali Bilden Camps, NORTHFORCE program manager. “Lake Superior attracts a lot of talent. But too often, we hear about candidates who get job offers, only to have a hard time finding housing, transportation, child care, and other essentials. What’s the result? The candidate turns down the job they wanted, and the employer has to go back to the drawing board with the hiring process.”
BeNorth.org is an initiative under the NORTHFORCE program, which connects career-minded individuals with professional advancement opportunities and supports employers in northern Minnesota and Wisconsin. NORTHFORCE is powered by the Northspan Group, a Duluth-based nonprofit consulting firm, in coordination with Northspan’s Welcoming Community program.
“Many of the new resources on BeNorth.org are ones we’ve identified over the last year as we’ve studied and mapped diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in northern Minnesota and Wisconsin,” said Amber Lewis, Welcoming Community program coordinator. “The Northland is home to many individuals and organizations working to nurture an environment where everyone feels welcome and can find the resources they need to thrive. These resources have an online home on BeNorth.org.”
